I discovered the original maintenance vouchers in the documentation that came with my Jag. The foreword notes the importance of regular maintenance and in language typical of the period assumes that the owner will be male!

There are 33 vouchers in the booklet, which takes the mileage to 40,000 miles (64,000 km) before a new book of vouchers is required. The sequence of vouchers follows the maintenance schedule in the Jaguar workshop manual, which is a service every 2,500 miles (4,000 km). The reverse side of the voucher shows the specific activities undertaken at each interval. However, for vehicles with automatic transmission and/or power steering the service intervals are even shorter at every 1,250 miles (2,000 km), where a check of the fluid levels in the automatic gearbox and the power steering unit is carried out. The other exception is the first service at 500 miles (800 km).

In the case of my car only the first voucher at 500 miles was used, all the others are still in the booklet! So much for regular maintenance, and the warning in the foreword (above). Let’s assume the original owner undertook the maintenance himself.

One of the more extensive checks occurs at 5000 miles (8,000 km), this combines the 2500 mile service with the additional items at 5000 miles.
